Armywife and I went to the mountains of western NC this past week. We haven’t been in a couple of years. It snowed the day before we arrived, there was still signs of it when we arrived. We did miss the fall colors though, not much was left in the high country. It was still very nice and peaceful. No schedule, no where to be, it was great. We traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway for a spell, stopped looked around, shot some pictures, saw wild turkey, deer, hawks, chipmunks and snow on the hills. During a shopping trip we visited a local park and watch some dogs playing in the river and a few Fly Fisherman doing their thing in the river too. The cabin we rented was pretty remote (no cell phone signal) near the towns of Banner Elk and Valle Crucis. They did have Wi-Fi and Satellite TV, so it wasn’t completely remote.
I had a close up encounter with a deer. The deer was strolling along their normal path and I was picking up dry sticks to get the fire in the fireplace going. I looked up, the deer had already put the brakes on and darted into the treeline. I didn’t get to see if it was a male or female even though we were less than 20 feet away from each other.
We relaxed with an outside fire one night and had hot Tazo Chai Tea to wash down our cookies. I took this shot before the sunset. Plenty of fires, plenty of hot tub and plenty of relaxing = plenty fun.
